The book begins with a story of a young girl by the name Avril showing us her world through her childhood innocence. She is growing up at a time of political upheaval in her country and in her childhood innocence, she does not understand why there has to be such divisions among people of the same nation. The nation’s story is interwoven with the romantic love story of Avril and Brian.
Life has many sad turns for Avril. On one afternoon she is caught unawares by the web of conflict between striking university students and the police. She is left heart-broken and the family is mystified. What next for Avril? Will she pursue her dreams? Will life offer her another chance of self-discovery and renewal?
The book reminds us we are the only ones who set limits for ourselves. A journey will always have its ups and downs, rarely is it a fair course but just like a river that knows its course we should always push forward aiming at our destination and never letting go. The story teaches us the magic of exploring our wildest fantasies, wishes and aspirations. The author is emphasizing on the need to dream big and following our dreams wherever they may lead us. Opening our eyes to the beauty of dreams and our minds to their exceptional magic; only when we dare to dream can our hearts be open to wonderful possibilities. Dreams big or small, easily attainable or almost impossible look at them and make them a reality!
